Provincial Insect Pest Reports

Provincial entomologists provide insect pest updates throughout the growing season so link to their insect-related information: 

Manitoba's Crop Pest Updates for 2020 are available. Access the July 1, 2020 report. The
summary indicates t
here are, "High levels of grasshopper nymphs have been found in many areas. Armyworms are being found in cereals and forage grasses in the Eastern, Interlake and Central regions. Some thistle caterpillars are being noted on soybeans and sunflowers."

Saskatchewan's Crop Production News and read Issue 4 which includes articles on Pest Scouting 101: Mid-Summer, and The Wheat Midge.

Provincial Insect Pest Reports

Manitoba's Crop Pest Updates for 2020 are available. Access the June 24, 2020 report. The
summary indicates t
here are, "some foliar insecticide applications for flea beetles in canola continued over the past week, although this seems to be coming to an end. Cutworm control continues, but is also decreasing. Grasshopper nymphs are present in high levels in some areas; control around field edges has begun and some full fields have been sprayed for grasshoppers."

Provincial Insect Pest Reports

Provincial entomologists provide insect pest updates throughout the growing season so plan to link to their upcoming information: 

Manitoba's Crop Pest Updates for 2020 are available. Access the June 17, 2020 report. The
summary indicates t
here are still some insecticide applications for cutworms and flea beetles occurring, although this is slowing down as canola advances, flea beetles die off, and cutworms move to the pupa stage. Some insecticide applications for grasshoppers have started. Trap counts for diamondback moth adults have increased substantially in the Eastern region in the last couple of weeks. Other insects that can potentially blow in from the south have not been noted yet. There has been no indication of soybean aphid or aphids in cereals, and sweep net sampling in the Carman area has failed to detect aster leafhoppers.

have been reports of flea beetle damage to canola, and cutworms in various crops, from all agricultural regions. Grasshopper nymphs are emerging; most are still in the first instar stage.

Provincial Insect Pest Reports (August 22, 2019; Wk 20)

Provincial entomologists provide insect pest updates throughout the growing season so we link to their most recent information: 

• Reminder - Manitoba's Crop Pest Updates for 2019 are posted here. Access Issue #13 posted August 13, 2019, noting continued grasshopper concern, the presence of new generation flea beetle adults in canola, and a repeated call for grasshopper surveyors.

Saskatchewan's Crop Production News has released Issue #7 (featuring information related to aphid thresholds).

•  Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's Agri-News includes an insect-related item in the August 19, 2019 edition with summer field scouting information related to flea beetles and bertha armyworm.
